JEE Physics rarely tests raw formula recall — it tests whether you can recognise which framework a problem belongs to within the first 20 seconds of reading it. Here are five frameworks our faculty drill into every JEE batch.
1. The FBD-First Rule (Mechanics)
Before writing a single equation, draw the free body diagram. Over 60% of mechanics errors in student test papers come from a missing or incorrect force, not a calculation mistake.
2. Dimensional Sanity Check
After solving any numerical, do a 5-second dimensional check on your final answer. If a velocity comes out with units of acceleration, you've caught an error before losing marks — this habit alone saves 3-4 marks in every JEE Main attempt.
3. Energy-Conservation-First for Complex Systems
When a mechanics problem involves multiple bodies, springs or inclines, always ask: "Can I solve this faster with energy conservation than with force equations?" In most JEE Advanced-level pulley and spring problems, the energy method is 2-3 steps shorter.
4. The Symmetry Shortcut (Electrostatics & Magnetism)
Look for symmetry before setting up an integral. Charge distributions on rings, shells and infinite sheets almost always have a symmetry that eliminates components — recognising this converts a 5-minute integral into a 30-second answer.
5. Graph-First Approach for Modern Physics
For photoelectric effect, radioactive decay and SHM-based questions, sketch the relevant graph (V vs frequency, N vs t, x vs t) before touching the algebra. The graph usually reveals the answer's behaviour and helps you sanity-check the sign of your final result.
